PSYCHOMOTOR RECOVERY AFTER INTRAVENOUS DEXMEDETOMIDINE INFUSION AS A PART OF BALANCED ANAESTHESIA – AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

نویسندگان

چکیده

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine recovery psychomotor function from balanced anesthesia with and without intravenous (IV) dexmedetomidine infusion as an adjunct. Methods: A prospective observational conducted in a tertiary care teaching hospital for 12 months. total 170 patients (American Society Anaesthesiologists 1 2) age group 18–50 years scheduled elective surgery under general anticipated duration <3 h received either (Group D) or not S). Recovery postoperatively assessed trieger dot test (TDT), digit symbol substitution (DSST), intraoperative fentanyl requirement both groups. Data collected were analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results: Both groups comparable respect demographic variables. Psychomotor by TDT showed statistically significant early Group D compared S. This seen number dots missed, maximum distance missed well average at post-operative time intervals 30 min, 60 90 120 min. Similarly, DSST revealed these points. There decrease Conclusion: addition anesthetic technique significantly hastened recovery.

Central apnoea after balanced general anaesthesia that included dexmedetomidine.

Dexmedetomidine is an alpha(2)-adrenoreceptor agonist that, in spite of its potent sedative, amnesic, and analgesic properties, has minimal respiratory depressant effect. Even at doses adequate for general anaesthesia, it does not cause central apnoea. Thus, it has been claimed that "combining alpha(2)-agonists with opiate narcotics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can enhance the analg...

A Comparative Study on Efficacy of Intravenous Dexmedetomidine Vs Intravenous Clonidine to Prolong Bupivacaine Spinal Anaesthesia

Many techniques and drug regimens, with partial or greater success, have been tried from time to time to eliminate the anxiety component and to prolong the postoperative analgesia during regional anesthesia. α 2 agonists like clonidine, dexmedetomidine are used as adjuvant to local anaesthetics in order to prolong the duration of spinal anaesthesia. They potentiate the effect of local anestheti...

Intravenous clonidine as a part of balanced anaesthesia for controlled hypotension in functional endoscopic sinus surgery: A randomised controled trial

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Controlled hypotension with balanced anaesthesia minimises blood loss. This study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of intravenous clonidine as a single bolus dose to establish controlled hypotension during functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). METHODS This randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was done in a tertiary hospital in India. Sixty America...

Effect of dexmedetomidine infusion for intravenous patient-controlled analgesia on the quality of recovery after laparotomy surgery

Background The Quality of Recovery-15 (QoR-15) is a patient-centered questionnaire to evaluate the recovery after surgery and anesthesia. Dexmedetomidine has sedative, analgesic, antiinflammatory and inhibitory sympathetic effects, which may contribute to early recovery. We hypothesized dexmedetomidine added to intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) could enhance the quality of recovery...

Lung function after total intravenous anaesthesia or balanced anaesthesia with sevoflurane.

BACKGROUND We investigated the effects of total i.v. anaesthesia (TIVA) and balanced anaesthesia (BAL) with sevoflurane on postoperative lung function in patients undergoing surgery in the prone position. METHODS Sixty patients, aged 21-60 yr, undergoing elective lumbar disc surgery in the prone position were randomly allocated to undergo TIVA (propofol-remifentanil) or BAL (fentanyl-nitrous ...
